It was so nice to have a few days off this week, but I have to admit that it's very hard for me not to take any photos...

Family Time
Paul and I took Joaquin and Lila on a walk around the arboretum today after I made French toast and we opened presents from our wonderful families. Sounds peaceful, right? It was, if you don't count the periodic tantrums caused by removing from Joaquin's almost-two-year-old grasp the following, in no particular order: the dog's tail, a butter knife, the entire Sunday New York Times (all sections), and a red Sharpie pen with a missing cap. Ah, toddlerhood! I was talking to my friend Laurelyn yesterday and she I agreed that the best training for being a parent is being a waitress. It's very stressful and fast-paced, you have to carry lots of things that are heavy and awkward and fragile, and the customers are very demanding.
It was so nice to have a few days off this week, but I have to admit that it's very hard for me not to take any photos...

Karla + Mark
I thought it might be fun to show the "warm" photos of Karla after featuring her beautiful cold-toned face in her bridal portrait below. Her wedding November 3 was absolutely gorgeous -- Mark cried throughout her entire walk down the aisle with her dad, and they were married in the same church where Karla's parents tied the knot. The party was under a clear tent decorated with lanterns, twinkly lights, and gorgeous table arrangements. No mere wedding music for them -- their band was The Tams! That's her sister-in-law giving her a kiss just before she walked down the aisle.
Collins' Bridal Portrait
We had so much fun shooting Collins back in August. Her wedding was the one featured below that took place in Cashiers. She and her wonderful mom Marlene drove all the way down to Greensboro, and we made a day of it. Hair, makeup, lunch and Collins glamming us out with this amazing dress and her 0" waist. Gorgeous!

Katie + Jason
Last weekend our own Katie Klein tied the knot with her longtime love, Jason Wood. She wore the most beautiful vintage-inspired dress, and in true Katie fashion wore a veil from a vintage hat and her grandmother's gloves and fur stole. The service was at dusk in Center City Park in Greensboro, and they wrote their own vows, which were beautiful! Tons of friends and family came from far and wide, and even though it got a little chilly as the sun set, nobody seemed to mind. The party commenced down the street at The Press, a cool wine bar in Southside. It was a great day, and we're so happy for you guys!

"Real Simple Weddings" Book
Two of our weddings were just chosen for the premiere issue of Real Simple Weddings (a special publication from the editors of Real Simple). It will appear sometime in January and be on newsstands nationally for a year. Below are some images from one of the weddings, shot by Matthew. The bride is Rhiannon Giddens, an amazingly talented musician and singer, who is in numerous bands, including The Carolina Chocolate Drops. She and her band were recently guests on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion". Her husband, Michael Laffan, is also a talented musician, and they met at a recording studio in France. Their wedding was very unique and intimate, held at a local dance hall where the dinner was a potluck and the celebration was a contra dance. A complete slideshow is below, with music by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason. Coincidentally, the song you'll hear ("The Lover's Waltz")is what Rhiannon and Mike chose for their first dance song, and also happens to be the music I have used on my site for the past year or so.

Collins + Jared
Here is one of my favorite series from a lovely wedding that Matthew and I shot together in Cashiers a few weeks ago. Such an interesting and fun couple, and we fell in love with both their families, too. These shots were taken just a few moments after they tied the knot. Collins' smile says it all!

Lucy & Andrew
I've been photographing Lucy and Andrew since they were both infants. Their parents, Anne and Dave, have moved to D.C. but I was lucky enough to see the family when they came to Greensboro for David & Seoyoung's wedding in July. Lucy and Andrew even got to play with Joaquin a little bit, and he sat still long enough for me to get him in one of the shots.

"Go Triad" Cover Story
We were very honored to be featured in a recent piece in local arts & entertainment section of the newspaper. Katie did Abigail's makeup for the cover shot, which was taken at our new studio.

Rachel and Matthew in The Knot
Another of our favorite weddings is currently featured in The Knot. Rachel and Matthew were married last December at the Crest Center in Asheville -- the rehearsal dinner was hosted at the Barn at the Biltmore, complete with a cozy bonfire and s'mores for the bundled guests. They are a wonderful couple!

Great Catch!
This sweet girl caught the bouquet at Lauren & Paul’s wedding in November, and her expression says it all.
Katie Klein, Associate Photographer
After shooting more than 40 weddings as a senior photographer, Katie is now shooting as an associate photographer. Her lovely work and steady, calm persona have been a great addition to our weddings for the past two years. Congrats, Katie!
