Matthew in the news
Last week's "Go Triad," a local entertainment paper, featured an article about our very own Matthew Spencer, dubbing him "The Rock Photographer of Greensboro." Many of you know him only as a documentary wedding photographer extraordinaire, but he is quickly making a name for himself in the Southeast music scene. You can check out the article here:

Thanks for all your notes...
So many of you have written asking whether Joaquín is home yet (see earlier post below about our in-process adoption), and I am so grateful for your kind thoughts. In short, Paul and I, along with lots of other unwitting families, have gotten caught in a series of bureaucratic delays far beyond anyone's control. We had hoped to have him home this month, but it now looks like he will be in our arms forever in October (we hope). He is in great hands with his foster mother, "Tía Gladis," and is now 7 months old! I have to admit it has been a rough adjustment since we learned of the latest delay, but your thoughts and concern mean so much. I did take a spur-of-the-moment trip to Guatemala last month between weddings, and spent 4 wonderful (and sleepless!) nights caring for our sweet little guy. Naturally, I took a ton of photos:

Speaking of Babies...
Another of our couples has recently added to their brood: congratulations to Mirandy and Kenny, married in December 2004. Their little boy, Aidan, was born in March 24, 2006. I had the amazing honor of actually being there to document his birth, and we are going to be doing some follow up photos soon. He's adorable!

Casey and Dan
We have had the great pleasure of meeting and working with wonderful couples over the last few years. One such couple is familiar to those who view our website because they are plastered all over it: Casey and Dan. All wedding stories are romantic and poignant, but theirs was particularly so because Dan was diagnosed with cancer in late 2004. Their wedding was rescheduled due to his treatments, which were ultimately successful in sending the disease into remission. So, when their wedding day arrived last June, you can imagine that there was an electric sense of joy permeating everything. Katie did the makeup for Casey and her bridesmaids, and Matt and I shot the wedding. All three of us cried during the ceremony and throughout the rest of the night! It was one of the most amazing experiences for us to witness, and we still talk about it. Anyway, we received great news from Casey a few days ago: she and Dan are expecting their first child! So we have put together a slideshow in honor of their first anniversary and of their new baby. Congratulations, guys -- we love you!

Joaquin Santiago
OK, I can't resist adding a few photos of our new baby! He is almost 4 months old, and we hope to be able to bring him home forever in August 2006. We were very blessed to be able to travel to Guatemala in March and visit him for a few days. Leaving him behind was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. He is with a wonderful foster mother, though, and she is already a dear friend and we are so lucky he is in her care.
Slideshows
I'm so sorry it's been so long since we updated our blog, but lots has been going on! I have been to Guatemala and back to visit our sweet boy, and wedding season is well underway. I'll post a few highlight shots above. We have added a new page of slideshows, so now everyone will have a preview site to enjoy before the main gallery is online. This is a great way to send images to friends and get them motivated to see the rest of the wedding. I've been kind of obsessed with learning the software, so am trying to turn everything I've ever shot into a slideshow. Here's the link:

Lila
Lila's getting married in 2 weeks, and came to the studio with her dog, Ava, for a bridal session. Doesn't she look like someone Degas or Renoir would have painted? Also, she's got a Drew Barrymore vibe going in the top shot. She's got a great, goofy laugh, showed up in a man's camouflage shirt, and has no idea how gorgeous she is! We had fun.

Rachel & Matt 12/30/05
I love this shot of Rachel & Matt, who look like they could be on the deck of a cruise ship in the 1940s. This is the back veranda of the Crest Center in Asheville, a truly spectacular location:

Janette Carter
Janette Carter has passed away. Janette was the daughter of A.P. and Sara Carter of the famous Carter Family, arguably the most influential figures in American roots and country music. I had the great honor of meeting Janette and photographing her for the New York Times a few years ago (this is the photo that ran in the paper). She and her daughter, Rita Forrester, managed the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, VA, for many years. Their family tree includes Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash (June was Janette Carter's cousin) whose country home was just up the road from Janette's. She will be dearly missed. You can read more about her life and learn about the Fold at:

It's a boy!
The latest addition to our motley crew is our little boy, Joaquin, who was born on January 1st in Mazatenango, Guatemala. My husband and I are in the process of completing his adoption paperwork, and hope to have him home sometime in June. I think it's fair to say that he will be one of the most photographed children, ever. We will get to travel and meet him for the first time in early March. Que alegria!
